I don’t believe that wearing makeup is about self acceptance. I believe putting on makeup is a way to enhance your beauty. It says, I care about my appearance because I care about myself. It has little to do with lack of self acceptance, I think it is about having pride in who you are and caring about how you show up. You can check out my post on How Fashion Influence brain Chemistry. There is over 100 comments on women sharing how fashion and beauty enhance and inspired them.

We certainly love make-up as much as the next girl! Dare To Go Bare isn’t about banishing make-up, it’s about letting go of the idea that you are in some way obligated to look a certain way. Too many women believe that the face they see without make-up is not good enough. It’s time for them to reclaim their authentic beauty. Only then can they have a fun-flled, fabulous and healthy relationship with the beauty industry!

I suspect those women you are referring to may have deeper issues. The need for makeup is a bi-product from something else. Although, I really couldn’t speak for those women. I could only speculate because I have never had those issues. I discovered makeup later in life. After 30 years of age. I actually love it! It is fun and it enhances the enjoyment I already experience in life. Was “Daring To Go Bare” a challenge for you? Are you the women that you are speak of? Where you ever uncomfortable going without makeup?

You are a rare bird in that you’ve never suffered from lack of self-esteem, as so many women succumb to the narrow and damaging cultural messaging regarding beauty. You must have had a strong support system and excellent female role models. How wonderful that you’re able to share the benefit of your experience and perspective with others through your work. For me (CJ) it wasn’t about being uncomfortable without make-up. It was about not being comfortable in my own skin. The need to hide behind make-up in order to feel secure and worthy is the bi-product of low self-esteem.
